First week of Advent

With Advent starting last Sunday, we have also been discussing with the children what Advent is, what it means and why we celebrate it. We talked about how Advent is a time to wait...for the birth of Jesus. On Monday, we attended a short Advent liturgy in our school foyer where we sang some Advent songs and celebrated the beginning of Advent, as a kindergarten group.

December is finally here...

The children have been eagerly awaiting the month of December so that we can start everything Christmas. Today we had a lot of amazing Christmas art (tree decorations, cards, etc). Friends started writing letters to Santa. We have reindeer food in our sensory bin. They have traced, cut out and decorated Christmas trees and made Rudolphs with paper towel rolls. All this to say that the students are loving the start to this month.

Monday, Monday....

We hope everyone had a great long weekend. Today, we had some friends practicing writing their names in their sign in books (Mason, Jack, Carter, Gabe, Parker B). We put a vase with real flowers on the Art table, along with some watercolor paints, and the children made some beautiful works of Art. Logan found a pair of binoculars in an Art book and recreated them with paper rolls, paint and string. Very cool! JT made an awesome spaceship out of Lego. We had Carter, Jack, Mason, Darren and Gabe working together to build castles and towers with the blocks.

Another week has come and gone. The children have been doing lots of different activities and learning lots of different things. This week we spoke a lot about our 5 Senses. We explored these through videos, games and centres. Today, many children were working at the Playdoh centre making faces with Playdoh and many of them were able to talk about their senses. We also had lots of drawings and instances where the students were sounding out words on their own. So awesome! We saw lots of cool things made out of Lego. On Wednesday, some children were building racetracks and playing games with blocks. Many children also spent time working on their cutting skills. They were cutting different types of lines and various shapes out of paper.

Fine Motor Friday

On Fridays, we like to slow things down with some fine motor activities. Today we took out the Perler beads (melting beads), the Bandaroos, the Patterns Blocks, Playdoh, Lego, and we had a cutting centre. These are all activities that help to promote and develop fine motor skills for the children. Take a peek and what the children made.
